Backpacking in the Arab world                                       Back to the list of Arab countries

Best of
Surprise: Syria is a country not conducive to traditional travel. In addition to its wealth of archaeological remains, animation and the unique atmosphere of its cities, it is an opportunity to make quite comical adventures that will remain in our memories.
Romantic: Damascus Features: In the heart of the oasis of Ghouta, bordered by mountains and watered by the Barada River, Damascus is a privileged place of residence in Syria, not to be missed!

Discovery: To discover the beauty of this country, often hidden or almost inaccessible to mass tourism, you can drive any circuit ground.
Culture: Syria is a distinction that can still go on adventure. Here, the population still has the savoir-vivre; they will voluntarily open their heart and return, and invite you to have coffee, to share life.
Hotels: In general, the booking of hotels is not cheap in Syria, you can choose according to your taste and your budget; low-price hotels or luxurious hotels, hotels on the beach or in the town, for a business or a leisure travel.

Syria

Located in the west of the Asian continent, the Syrian Arab Republic is a gateway to the entire Middle East. Its borders to the West: the Mediterranean Sea and Lebanon, northern border: Turkey, southern border: The Kingdom of Jordan and eastern border is Iraq. Syria gives to each archaeologist the opportunity to explore its beautiful ruins and experience the thrill of being part of it.
The capital of Damascus is honoured to be one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world. This continues to speak volumes about the cultural diversity that this city is overflowing with. Thanks to the wide exposure, Syria owes to the various civilizations that inscribe their prints in there. The old city area of Damascus encapsulates in itself a completely different word, completely rustic ancient charm and a sense of time rolled backwards. With old walls leading to paved streets in paved gravel out for donkey driven carts, it is surely an experience worth watching. With the shouts of traders calling in their articles for buyers ringing in the ears the atmosphere is alive and kicking. The air is full of pungent smells of aromatic herbs extinct by the traders and the markets are busy with people in their traditional dresses.
The Omayyad Mosque in the city is certainly the main device. Built in 705AD this mosque has a central hall where the devotees began to kneel down facing the direction of the Holy City of Mecca.
Favour a walk through the Gotha, which are orchids surrounding the city. Damascus is worth visiting in the first place where the orchids are in their full glory of bloom.
Syria is a land of charm infused with rich ancient traditional. Visit it to smell it.

How long we must remain at least?

Damascus: two days that are just enough to appreciate the beauty of its site and its monuments
Palmyra: two days in this place will be too great, especially if you feel the courage to go to the discovery of the desert that surrounds
Deir Ezzor: you need one day to visit the ghost towns of the desert
Aleppo: Two days are hardly enough to touch what the city and its environs have become remarkable.
Homs: you will just need one day to visit this beautiful area.
