![]() Volubilis is an ancient Roman city located on the banks of the Oued Khoumane; a river on the outskirts of Meekness (Morocco), near the holy city of Moulay Idriss Zerhoun where is buried Idris I. The name of the site of Volubilis is owed to the abundance of the plant. The name of the Berber city Walili, Oualili or Walila (Arabic: walīlā وليلى) which means flower buckwheat. The city lived by the trade in olive oil. Found in the ruins of numerous oil presses. Entrance fees at: 20 DHS for foreigners and residents. Free for residents on Friday. From Rabat: about 185 km and 2h30 journey. Take the direction of Fez and Meekness to the Highway (2nd exit Meekness East). Cross the city almost in straight line to take the road of Sidi Kacem. (70Km from Fez; Manes 35Km)
My advice
before you go Warning: in summer, sometimes there is a scorching heat. Bring a hat and water. You will not find shade on the site ... Enjoy the cooler (and more serene ...) hours; morning and evening.
Accommodation and my good addresses
One luxury hotel (Volubilis Inn 4 *) 1 km from the site, on the slopes of Zerhoun, overlooking the ruins and plain. Otherwise, there is a possibility to stay in guest rooms near the site or Moulay Idriss, to 4 km. A café-restaurant on site.
What I have not liked

About Premises
Very friendly people, it is rare to meet someone who visited Morocco and said that he does not like!
